Group Project Now a Solo Project
Concordia. Sophomore Ben Pantersen says a group project assigned to him in his accounting class has suddenly become a solo project.

“I define a solo project as one in which one person is doing all the work,” said Pantersen. “There are four other people in my group, but since I am doing all the work, it would be a misnomer to call it a group project.”

Two of Pantersen’s partners, freshman Laura Bourrke and junior Adam Mullington disagree with Pantersen, but neither one was able to provide evidence that they have actually worked on the project. Bourrke didn’t even seem clear on what the project was: “Yeah, we helped on that project,” she told The Shadow. “We did our share. The presentation should be fine, as long as Ben comes through with the Powerpoint slides and gives us our sheets to read off of.”

Mullington echoed Bourrke’s response. “Ben is the best,” Mullington said, “he’s a lion. That’s why we let him do the lion’s share of the work. Since he had been reading the book all semester long and we hadn’t, it just made sense that he did the biggest part. But don’t think that we aren’t doing our part. We are. Trust me.”

When asked what part that was, Mullington had this to say: “I worked on the organizational and planning portion of the project. I planned it out so that Ben would be able to work on the areas of the project he is best suited for.”

But Pantersen says his partners are lying. “When it comes time to fill out the peer evaluation forms, they’re going down!”

Asked what they would write about Pantersen on their peer evaluation sheets, Bourrke and Mullington said they weren’t sure, but that they were considering letting Pantersen do that part of the project as well.

Ben Pantersen’s group looks on, providing moral support as he does all the work.
