Professor Humphrey sports his "magic of PI" sweatshirt with pride.
|
Concordia. Professor of Mathematics, Oswald Humphrey has officially submitted a twenty page request in writing, asking for permission to teach a new math class that is "Devoted Entirely to PI".
"PI deserves its own class," Humphrey told us, chuckling, "Because as far as numbers go, it’s already in a class by itself. It’s the magic number! Frankly, I’m sick and tired of PI being simply used and abused in other classes. We need to study the number for its own sake, not simply to find out the properties of a bunch of boring circles."
Other math professors are not in total agreement with Humphrey. "I would warn against studying PI

too closely," said Professor Donna Riedznik, "Most people who do flip out. They lose it. PI is a very dangerous, dangerous number. I mean, just watch the movie, Pi. You’ll know what I mean."
Humphrey threw off Riedznik’s criticism with a shrug. "She’s just jealous that I’ve looked beyond the 3.14. I’ve seen the 1592653589793238462643383279502884197 [the remaining numbers have been edited out] that leads to the perfect holy circle of universal beauty and truth. I want students to see all of PI. I want them to see it in all its glory. Let’s face it: Pie is good. But PI, oh, PI is extraordinary!"
